SULSA Workshop X Science Entrepreneur Club Mixer

Join fellow early career researchers, curious to understand the capacities that might help you deliver more impact from your research.  We are delighted to be joined by Gillian Fleming and Ross Tuffee, both Entrepreneurs in Residence, with a broad background of working with staff commercialisation and student enterprise across our universities. Understand your own personal strengths and potential blindspots when it comes to creating a commercial entity.

About the Science Entrepreneur Club (SEC)

The Science Entrepreneur Club (SEC) is a UK-based non-profit and volunteer-led organisation. Their mission is to connect the life science ecosystem through their initiatives, insights and events.

The SEC give entrepreneurs, investors and academics meaningful communities to learn, collaborate, socialise, and showcase innovation. They focus on the life sciences, encompassing AgriTech, ClimateTech, Digital Health, Life Science Tools and Tech, Medical Devices, TechBio and Therapeutics.

Their BioEntrepreneur Club includes over 380 founders and CxOs building in bio and their BioCapital Network includes over 390 investors actively backing life science companies.

SEC Scotland Chapter

Scotland is a leading region for life sciences in Europe with over 770 businesses employing over 42,500 people and generating a turnover of almost £10.5bn (Scottish Development International). Despite this, most community-centric initiatives occur within the Golden Triangle of London, Oxford and Cambridge. By launching SEC Scotland, the SEC aims to challenge this status quo.

SEC Scotland will convene local members of the SEC’s BioCapital, BioEntrepreneur and BioAcademic communities to create one powerful life science community in Scotland.

To celebrate the launch of the Scottish chapter, SULSA has teamed up with the SEC to host the first SEC Scotland Mixer in March 2025.

SULSA Workshop X SEC Mixer

Join us on March 26th in Edinburgh for an afternoon and evening connecting with Scotland’s brightest academics, inspiring entrepreneurs and enthusiastic investors and begin building your entrepreneurial network.

Ross Tuffee, founder of the Connect-Ed network and co-author of Scotland’s Entrepreneurial Campus report, will guide researchers in SULSA’s network through key considerations in developing an entrepreneurial mindset and empower you to turn your research into business ideas whether you’re ready to take that plunge now or just wondering what the fuss is all about.

Following this workshop for researchers (PhD stage upwards), the SEC’s network of entrepreneurs and investors will join for an evening of networking and the official launch of the SEC Scotland Chapter. SULSA and BioAcademic researchers are welcome to join for the workshop and/or the mixer.

15:00 – 16:30: SULSA Workshop with Ross Tuffee and Gillian Fleming: A Route to Greater Impact – How Developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset can Increase the Impact of Research.

16:30 – 19:00: SEC Mixer (drinks and nibbles provided)
