Life Sciences Pitching Bootcamp

Looking to improve your pitching skills in a safe and fun environment? Then join our Life Sciences Pitching Bootcamp and turn your research into an exciting business idea and be in with a chance of winning one of two £1,000 awards.

About the Bootcamp

The Life Sciences Pitching Bootcamp will take place on Wednesday 23rd October at the Technology and Innovation Centre in Glasgow.

The Life Sciences Pitching Bootcamp is open for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers looking to develop key skills needed to advance in their research career, whether in commercialising their research or building new collaborations with academics or industry.

Although useful, you do not need to have a research idea ready for commercialisation to attend this event, your own research project and how to ‘pitch’ that can be used as an example for your elevator pitch – a very useful tool for any scientific conference!

This day-long intensive programme will bring you through the key stages of commercialisation/spinning out your own company, show you how to pitch your research, provide time to develop your own 1-minute elevator pitch and gain insight from successful innovators in the Scottish life sciences scene. The workshop will finish with a pitching competition judged by our organisers and speakers. There will be 2 x £1,000 award winners.

A networking reception will take place at the end of the bootcamp where a winner from each category will be announced. Winners will receive funding towards their professional development.

SULSA represents the entirety of life, medical and environmental sciences and as such, our participants will be grouped into Plant, Animal, Human, and Microbe headings and relevant speakers from each heading will be invited to present and mentor the participants throughout the day.

  • Don’t worry if you’ve never prepared a pitch before, this exercise is to provide you with a starting point for the workshop and help you see how your skills have developed over the course of the bootcamp. If you are not sure how your research could be applied to a business you can just tell us about your current research project.
