This event builds upon our Post-Academic Careers database which aims to raise awareness of the various jobs available to life science researchers and the skills required for these roles.

Electv Workshop: Pitch Perfect: Public Speaking, Networking & Engaging

Join Jo Young from Electv for this workshop covering the various situations that researchers are faced with regularly with regard to verbal interaction. We will cover oral presentations, short communications, how to pitch your research and how to network effectively. Participants will be introduced to various techniques that they can use and adapt to a variety of situations. At the end of this workshop participants will have:

  • been introduced to a series of techniques to aid and structure their presentations;
  • an understanding of how to present & engage with various audiences;
  • gained confidence with regard to delivering effective presentations.

Skillfluence Workshop: Progressing Your Career

Vivomotion Workshop: Making An Animation About Your Research

Join Dr Mhairi Towler from Vivomotion for this exciting workshop teaching researchers how to produce a 2 minute 2D white board animation describing their research which can then be shared on social media platforms. By the end of the workshop you should be able to:

  • Have written and recorded a script describing your research.
  • Have sketched out a storyboard.
  • Know how to proceed to complete production of your animation.

My Consultants Workshop: Résumé for Researchers

Join Dr Robin Henderson from My Consultants for his workshop exploring Résumé for Researchers – an initiative which aims to capture individuals varied contributions to research in a narrative format. UKRI have announced that they plan to use it as a standard format for assessing track record information – you can find out more information on the UKRI website.

This workshop will examine how you can identify activities to include within your Résumé (recognising these activities may be more varied than on a standard CV) and how to develop the narrative for each module of the Résumé to make sure you effectively let your contributions to research shine through.
