Join this session with Dr Robin Henderson from MY Consultants to explore how you identify, evidence and effectively sell your existing skills for both careers within and beyond the boundaries of academia.  By the end of the workshop you will:

  • Have a more detailed understanding of the skills you have developed within your career.
  • Be able to evidence these skills in a succinct way to share in job applications, narrative CVs (for funding applications), and interviews.
  • Be able to market your skills effectively to potential employers and funders.

Presenting research in this format can be a new concept for some researchers so this workshop introduces the fundamentals of communicating research via visual means. By the end of the workshop you will:

  • Define the principles around poster design
  • Produce a draft plan for your poster
  • Critique any previous posters you’ve made for improvement
  • Consider options for online presentation of posters

Join Heather Livingston from SkillFluence for this Careers Planning workshop. You’re finishing your PhD – what will be next? We consider the current job market and provide advice on how to keep up to date with relevant labour market intelligence to support career progression. We’ll look at the hidden job market and how to use networking for successful job search. We spend time on the application and selection process and participants will have an opportunity to think about their current skills and knowledge and how to develop them to progress in their career.
